GLO to conduct online lottery poll

The Government Lottery Office will conduct a survey to sound out public opinions on social impacts of the two and three-digit online lottery, Sathit Limpongphan, permanent secretary for finance and ex-officio chairman of the GLO, said today.

Mr Sathit said the GLO has hired Suan Dusit Rajabhat University to conduct a poll on about 10,000 people in 16 provinces throughout the country to hear their opinions on possible social impacts from the sale of two and three-digit lottery with vending machines. The poll is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

If the majority of people have no objection to the online lottery scheme, the GLO would go ahead with its operation, he said.

Mr Sathit said this after Porntip Jala, secretary-general of the Council of State, said that her office last week replied to four or five questions raised by the GLO over the online lottery operation, particularly sale of the lottery on online vending machines. The council's advice is that the GLO can do so without against the law.

Mrs Porntip said it now depended on the GLO to decide on the matter.
